Steve Bain, Director of Pisys.net has recently achieved practitioner status to accredit businesses working with the public sector in Wales with a Cyber Essentials Certificate.

The certification is required for all relevant Welsh Government contracts involving the handling of personal or sensitive information and will impact on all suppliers including National Procurement Service collaborative frameworks.

Mr Bain commented ’’The Welsh Government has made it mandatory for third-party suppliers with a ’moderate’ or ’high’ level of risk when dealing with sensitive information to be Cyber Essentials certified in order to work with Public Sector organisations across Wales’’.

Currently, the Welsh Government operates five levels of risk, from 0 to 4 and Cyber Essentials is required from level 1 upwards where there is a moderate risk and sensitive data needs to be protected.

’’The Cyber Essentials scheme provides businesses with clarity on good basic cyber security practice. By focusing on basic cyber hygiene, your company will be better protected from the most common cyber threats.’’ said Steve.

The mandate will impact on any business that works with or is tendering to work with a public sector organisation in Wales from ad-hoc contracts to longer-term agreements.
